I rediscovered a comment I left on the menu music for Star Wars: Battlefront II's Galactic Conquest mode, and I wanted to share that here on my blog because it has some nice memories with it.
No matter what's going on in the world, no matter what year we're in, people have been coming to the comments section of this video for years to share their appreciation and memories of this theme and this game.
I didn't have much growing up, friends went as fast as they came into my life, we were living paycheck to paycheck, constantly moving just to be able to afford a home to live in. But the few constant things I did have were family, films/tv and games. BF2 was one of those games.
The choice for so many Lucasfilm SW games to just use the music from the films was a perfect decision. It links the two mediums together in a way that could only have been done by music.
This sounds cheesy and like something Phil Spencer would say at an Xbox show, but the games from this era really did make a little baby dino feel like he was living his Star Wars fantasy. It felt so cool to live these films, and explore the universe even deeper than the films went.
Even better was sharing these memories with my brothers, who were always there no matter what in those days. That's what this theme reminds me of. Also the amazing quotes that this comments section is filled with.
I'm creating new memories with SW now even as an adult, rewatching the whole series---films and shows---with some friends I made online last year. They say you can never get your childhood back, but I like to think-no I KNOW I'm making my childhood self happy by continuing to do what I love, in spite of what the world is throwing at me. That's how I grew up after all.
